Me: Mr. Kennedy, having been such a young President faced with many challenges, what do you think is important for young students today to keep in mind when challenges arise for them in school? JFK: Although I was President only a few decades ago, so many things in society are different. It is much more difficult to grow up in today’s society, with the pressures that face our youth. I think it is important for the students of today to keep a “level head” and try and surround themselves with positive peers, not ones who will negatively impact them. I also think it is important for students to always remember that not everything will come easy to them but they still should try their best at everything they do.
Me: Mr. Kennedy, based on your experience in your own personal in campaign, what would you tell students, who are currently running or planning to run in school elections, is the most important thing to do in order to be successful? JFK: The most important thing I would tell students to remember is to be honest. Politics are filled with lies and corruption today. This type of behavior should not take place in the school setting. If a student makes a promise in their campaign, they need to do eveything they can to stick to it. If they do not think they will be able to accomplish something, do not include it in their campaign, no matter what the opposing canidates may be proposing. In the long run, it is always better to take the higher road and be up-front with everything. You will be respected much more by those who surround you.
Me: Mr. Kennedy, being the only Catholic president of the United States, you were faced with much criticism. What would you tell students who face criticism today in the form of bullying, both physical and verbal. JFK: Bullying is a very tough issue to deal with in school’s today. It will always be around in some form no matter what steps administration takes to eliminate it. I think it is up to the individual and if they are going to let someone bully them or not. Believe it or not, students can control this. The biggest thing for students to keep in mind is that confidence is everything! Bullies can pick out students who are insecure or shy. They will prey on these students because they are easy targets. If students realize that if they improve their self confidence, the likelihood of being bullied will reduce greatly. However, if the bullying continues, I would tell them that they should not keep it to themselves under any circumstances. They need to tell an adult of authority and let them take the necessary steps to deal with the issue.
