  1. TWU Student Learning Outcomes Suggestions for Program Mapping Faculty Development Seminar, October 1, 2013

  2. TWU Student Learning Outcomes • Developed by faculty and student life • Approved by Senate • Grounded in Christian Liberal Arts Tradition • High level or “global” • Intended to have an impact on overall program development rather than on individual courses (but can be revelatory for courses as well) • TWU Student Learning Outcomes

  3. Mapping TWU Student Learning Outcomes with Programs • Mapping process will identify program strengths, challenges and opportunities in relation to the TWU Student Learning Outcomes • Mapping process leads naturally to program revision and/or renewal • Use multiple mapping lenses – chosen lenses will vary from program to program in their usefulness • Should make “natural and significant” connections. Stretch your thinking, but don’t force a connection to each category • Stay big picture as much as possible • Program maps will vary significantly depending on type, discipline etc.

  4. Discoveries about TWU Student Learning Outcomes • Can’t use the broad categories alone for mapping • Have the detailed descriptions available when considering connections. • Christian integration is not limited to the Spiritual Formation Category • Cognitive Complexity explicitly • All categories have potential for Christian integration • Absence of “aesthetics” in the TWU Student Learning Outcomes (appreciation of beauty, design, form, artistic expression)

  5. Possible ways to Map • TWU Student Learning Outcomes to Program Goals • TWU Student Learning Outcomes to EDUC Course Learning Outcomes and Key Assessments • TWU Student Learning Outcomes to Program Values, Content and Practices • TWU Student Learning Outcomes and EDUC Program Intake Variables • TWU Student Learning Outcomes to Faculty Research Interests • TWU Student Learning Outcomes to Course Essential/Guiding Questions • TWU Student Learning Outcomes to Co-Curricular Program Learning • TWU Student Learning Outcomes to Professional Standards • Other?

  6. Your Mapping Opportunity • What is it that you want to know about your program in relation to TWU student learning outcomes? • How can you ensure a comprehensive/high level picture emerges? • What do you discover as you begin working with Student Learning Outcomes? • SB RNT 221 • FNAS RNT 122 • SN RNT 234 • SHKIN RNT 121 • FHSS RNT 125 • SE MPF 202 • SAMC MPF 203
