Small Business Exporting The export potential of small-and medium-sized businesses is great: ·Ninety-five percent of the world’s consumers live outside of the United States, representing tremendous purchasing power. ·Small and medium-sized business account for 97 percent of U.S. exporters, but only about 30 percent of the total value of U.S. goods exports. ·Of the small and medium-sized companies which do export, about two-thirds of them sell only to one market.

  3. Trade in Services • The services industry supports 88 million U.S. jobs, and comprises the majority of existing U.S. jobs and new U.S. job growth. • Commercial trade in services totals $1.5 trillion annually with $328 billion in U.S. exports in 2004.

  4. Top Categories of Services Services companies value-added totaled $8 trillion in 2004 or 68 percent of U.S. GDP. Top categories include: 1) Finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing services, (21 percent of U.S. GDP). 2) Retail and wholesale trade, (13 percent of U.S. GDP) 3) Professional and business services, (12 percent of U.S. GDP) 4) Education, health and social services, (8 percent of U.S. GDP)

CAFTA–DR • The CAFTA-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement will create the second-largest U.S. export market in Latin America. • $17 billion and the 10th largest U.S. export in the world. • More than 80 percent of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial products will be duty free, with remaining tariffs phased out. • Removes barriers to U.S. services exports, and establishes a secure, predictable legal framework for U.S. investors.

China A Dynamic Market ·China is one of fastest growing trading partners with two-way trade totaling over $285 billion in 2005. ·China’s GDP is expected to grow a further 7-9 percent annually for the next few years. ·In China, many people are moving up, building elaborate houses and apartments, and renting their previous homes to other people.

  15. AREAS U.S. Pavilion at MIPIM Asia Hong Kong, September 27–29, 2006 • Participate in the “American Real Estate and Services” (AREAS) pavilion as part of the larger show. The event includes a 3-day exhibition, a 2-day seminar, one-on-one meetings for U.S. service providers to find Asian agents/distributors, buyers or partners, exclusive receptions, and networking functions.
