Organs In The Endocrine System • Endocrine glands-produce and release their chemicals products directly into the bloodstream. • Thyroid glands- hormones control the release of energy from food molecules. • Parathyroid glands-release hormone that regulate the amount of calcium in the blood. • Adrenal glands-one hormone triggers the body to respond to emergency situations. Other hormones affect the balance of salt and water in the kidney and help control the amount of blood sugar.

Organs continued • Testes-release testosterone which control the charges that take place in a teen body. • Uterus- The hollow muscular organ of the female reproductive system in which a baby develops. • Ovaries- release female sex hormones. • Pancreas- Produces insulin and glucagon. They control the level of glucose in the blood.

  4. Organs continued • Thymus-Hormone that helps the immune system fight infection. • Pituitary gland-communicates with the hypothalamus to control many body activities. • Hypothalamus-a tiny part of the brain near the middle of your head, is the link between the two systems.

  6. Hormones And Their Effects On The Body • Change (turn on, speed up, etc.) activities of organs and tissues • Adrenaline helps body’s reaction to danger and stress. • Pancreas has two hormones insulin and glucagon which helps control sugar levels.

One Disease That Can Effect The Endocrine System Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN) • Effects other glands in the body • Increased risk of tumorson endocrinegland • There a couple different kinds of MEN. There is MEN-I, MEN-II • MEN-I is when several endocrine glands become over active • MEN-II has an increased risk of cancerous tumors

  8. How Negative Feedback Controls Hormone Levels • When there is enough of a certain hormone, the endocrine system sends signals to stop it. • This is an important way that the body maintains homeostasis. • Negative feedback- the type of signal used in a heating signal.

  9. How The Endocrine System Interacts With Other Body Systems • The endocrine system works with the nervous system • Hypothalamus is a tiny part of the brain near the middle of your head, is the link between the two systems
