  2. Mission Statement The National Medical Association Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Scientific Section is committed to improving the quality of patient care and health outcomes through professional and public education, advocacy and health and wellness policy promotion

  3. Vision Statement The National Medical Association Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Scientific Section will be the preferred professional content expert resource on matters related to improving health outcomes of African Americans and minorities with asthma and allergies

  4. Strategic Drivers • Significant health outcomes disparities for asthma, allergic and immunological (AAI) diseases • NMA is committed to working to eliminate healthcare disparities (inclusive of asthma) • Minority physicians are more inclined to provide care to minority patients • Asthma is a costly burden for the community (inclusive of payers)

  5. Section Goals •  Physician knowledge of best practices managing asthma & allergic diseases •  Number of AA & minorities going into AAI field •  Public and community awareness of asthma & allergic diseases

  7. Framework Points 1) Professional Education • Provide educational opportunities for primary care physicians • Workforce Diversity •  African American & minority students & trainees exposure to AAI • Develop & nurture relationships with African American and minority fellows in training

Framework Points 3) Patient & Community Awareness • Establish partnerships with national & local organizations to reach targeted venues and audiences in high risk communities 4) Advocacy • Collaborate with likeminded organizations to advocate for patients & providers on matters affecting health & wellness

  9. Framework Points 5) Strategic Partnerships • Develop strategic relationships to support the successful implementation of the Section’s programs and tactics to accomplish the stated desired goals
