Learning at West Town LaneChildren learn through their experiences. We offer a variety of stimulating activities that create opportunities to develop skills across the curriculum. The children will have access to indoor and outdoor learning every day.Over the course of the Reception year we increase the amount of time children spend in adult led activities.

ParentPay is an online instant payment system. You will use it for payments such as uniform, trips, and school dinners as your child moves through the school.‘Parentseveningsystem’does exactly what it says, and is an online system for booking appointments.Libacura is used for those of you wanting to book places on the wrap around care or holiday schemes.Care Monkey is used to collect information on your children’s medical history. We encourage you to add to these with your own observations.
Induction Timetable and Visiting day Your child is invited to visit us on Tuesday 9th July for one hour. Please see your pack for times.
Which class? • Children will spend time in each classroom getting to know our Early Years area and all staff for their first 2 weeks at school. • At the end of the 2nd week we will have spent enough time with the children to make 3 balanced classes taking into account age, personality, gender and social mix.
School Day • School starts at 8:55. • Children have a mid morning snack. We ask you to provide 1 piece of fruit and a drink of water for this. • Children have a mid afternoon snack with a piece of school fruit. • Children are entitled to school milk until their 5th birthday. • Lunchtime is 12.10-1.10 with a choice of a packed lunch (prepared at home), packed lunch (prepared at school), hot school meal or salad bar. • School day finishes at 3:15.
Lunchtimes • All children will be entitled to a free school meal. • Some children may prefer a packed lunch prepared at home. School Uniform Our uniform is important to us. We wear:- Red sweatshirt or cardigan.- White/red polo tshirt or white shirt.- Grey/black trousers/shorts/skirt/dress/red summer dress.- Black school shoes.
What can you do in preparation? Speaking and listening Encourage your child to speak confidently, express their feelings, ask questions and talk about their experiences. Early Reading Read to your child discussing the pictures, what is happening, and characters. Encourage children to predict; what do they think will happen next? Health and Self Care Encourage your children to manage their own toileting needs. Physical development Make marks with paintbrushes, chalks or chunky crayons. Practise cutting, tracing or sewing, model making, rolling, or throwing.
