Purpose • We’ve got comments from France Telecom at the rapporteur meeting of WP2/16 meeting (June) • General purpose ID scheme vs. combination of existing ones • To show evidence that combination of multiple existing international standard ID schemes is insufficient to satisfy the F.771
Overview of discussion [Q.1] Are there application areas where objects cannot be identified using existing intl. std. ID schemes? No Use existing intl. std. ID schemes We really have a large number of such application areas! Yes [Q.2] How should we realize NID services for that application areas? More flexible approach! [Approach 1] Define ID scheme for each application area [Approach 2] Use general purpose ID schemes if needed
List of unsupported services • Our experiences • Food traceability • Location-aware information systems • Guide inside building (e.g. museum) • Registration of racing stud (thoroughbred) • Tissue traceability (medical system) and more… • At the releasing time, no suitable ID schemes are available (so we use ucode)
List of unsupported services (cont.) • Listed in Appendix I of F.771 • Multimedia information download via posters • Operating manual for a product • Business card with personal identifier • Presence service with multimedia information (theatre) and more… • Currently no suitable ID schemes are available(so we are proposing ucode and also adopting xCode)
Two Approaches • Build only multi-ID scheme standard which can adopt only international standard ID schemes define international standard ID scheme for each application area and register the ID scheme to the standard • Taking a couple of years • Restrictive • Build multi-ID scheme standard which can adopt only international standard ID schemes, and also define several international standard general purpose ID schemes Use either of general purpose ID schemes for each application • Taking a couple of weeks • We can still define intl. std. ID schemes when they are required
Beyond the discussion • Build only multi-ID scheme standard which can adopt non-international standard ID schemes register non-international standard ID schemes for the application area • We can also register any general purpose ID schemes in the mulit-ID scheme standard • Result is identical to the latter case of aforementioned two approaches
Discussion points • What’s the definition of “international standardized”? • Does this discussion make sense? • Other reasons? • How to prepare contributions for SG16 in October, 2009?
