What is Foursquare? • Location-based social networking • Software for mobile device • “Checks in” at venues using mobiles, text messaging or device-specific application. • This service was created in 2009 by Dennis Crowley and NaveenSelvadurai.
Foursquare • Allow registered users to connect with friends. • Update their current location wherever they go. • “Check-in” could be notify in Twitter and Facebook. • Allow friends being notify of their location. • Encourage meet up. • Reviews/comments on specific places.
Advancement in IT • People tends to stay connected. • Phone could surf internet. • People are more active online as they have these devices.
Compatibility • Currently has iPhone, Android, webOS, Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry applications. • Users with Symbian phones and Pocket PCs(Windows Mobile touchscreen) can use Foursquare via Waze or Sym4square, which is an application similar to Android, Blackberry and iPhone. • Users may also use their mobile browsers to access Foursquare mobile, but feature phone users must search for venues manually instead of using GPS that PDA applications can use.
What so good about Foursquare? • Encourage users to explore more places. • Allow users to see whose around them. • See reviews/comment about a venue posted by friends. • Photos of places and food. • Suggest places to dine in, leisure or shop.
