(Drum Major Camp, Leadership Camp…….) • Marching Band uniforms • Color Guard uniforms • Color Guard flags • Official show shirt and shorts • Dry cleaning • Fees and transportation to festivals, competitions and auditions • Student recognition awards • Specialized equipment (e.g. drum set harnesses, marching euphoniums, props, etc.)

  8. Band Camp • Band Camp is for learning how to March and putting the show together

  9. Band Camp Schedule • August 1st– 5th: Percussion Camp (8:00-12:00 PM) • August 3rd: Leadership Meeting (12:00 – 2:00 PM) • August 4th– 5th: Rookie Camp and Leadership Meeting (8:00 am – 12:00 PM) • August 8th– 12th: Full Camp (8-12 PM & 2-6 PM) • August 15th– 16th: Full Camp (8-12 PM & 2-6 PM) • August 17th– 19th: Full Camp (4:00-8:00 PM) • August 20th: Band Camp Show and Band Camp Banquet (8:00-2:00 PM) Performance at 11:00 AM and Banquet starts at 12:00 PM

Weekly Fall Schedule • Monday: Full Band 4:00 PM-6:00 PM • Tuesday: Percussion, 6:00 PM-9:00 PM • Wednesday: Winds, 4:00 PM-6:00 PM • Thursday: Full Band, 4:00 PM-6:00 PM • **Friday: Football Games 5:00-when game ends or Color Guard rehearsal (Time TBA) • **Saturday: Competition Days **We don’t always have something on Fridays and Saturdays

  11. Football Games • Marching Rams section in home bleachers • Band parents sit nearby = Band cheering section! • Marching Rams are appropriate, enthusiastic, sportsmanlike and SPIRITED!

  12. Football Games • Be ready and prepared to play and perform • Keep the Band Staff and the Drum Major in sight • 3rd quarter break for concessions (bring money)

Competitions • Dates • September 24th (USBANDS No. VA Regional, Herndon High School) • October 22nd(JMU Parade of Champions) • October 29th(VBODA State Marching Assessment, Patriot HS • ThreeSaturdays in the Fall • All day (rehearsal, competition, awards) • Travel together by bus • Exact times and itineraries TBA until competition schedules are released (generally 2 weeks prior)

  14. Rehearsals • Start ON TIME and end ON TIME • Fast paced • Have fun • Stay focused • Always have music, drill book, materials and equipment necessary for a successful rehearsal

  15. Storage • Marching Rams and members of the band program have a cubby in the band storage room • Shared space

  16. Equipment Care & Maintenance • Keep materials clean and in proper working condition • Keep track of your materials • Store materials when not in use • Maximize the space we have

  17. Absences • Must be arranged in advance unless there is an emergency • Note, phone call or email from parent/guardian to Mr. Smith • We are a team… each missed practice hinders the progress of the group! • DO NOT MISS PERFORMANCES! The success of the group depends on YOU!

  18. Playing/Spinning Assessments • During Band Camp • Assess individual/section preparation • Given by Drum Major, Captains and Section Leaders • Given by Band Staff/Directors as needed

  19. Uniform 101 – Instrumentalists • Plume (provided) • Shako (provided) • Jacket (provided) • Gauntlets (provided) • Bibbers (provided) NOT SHOWN: • Black Socks • DINKLES!! • Show Shirt (underneath - provided) • Gloves (as needed) • Show Shorts (underneath - provided)

  20. Uniform 101 – Shoes and Gloves • Special Marching Band shoes = DINKLES • Orders placed during Band Camp • Purchased through Fine Arts Boosters • Color Guard shoes and gloves are different than the bands and are ordered during Band Camp as well • Note: Two pairs of shoes may be necessary
