TPACK Technology, Pedagogy Content knowledge TPACK is used to understand and describe knowledge that a teacher needs for an effective use of pedagogy to enhance learning.
GROWTH in UNDERSTANDING At the start of the semester I thought that Technology, Pedagogy, and Content were all important aspects that could be understood individually. I realize now that all 3 aspects of TPACK can intertwine, combine, and overlap. Over the course I have started to think about how technology can be used in my pedagogy, and how it can enhance content knowledge for any given course.
Technology and Content Knowledge Throughout the course Technology and Content knowledge are 2 aspects that I have began to explore. Using the idea of SAMR you can use technology in order to either substitute, augment, modify, or redefine The SAMR model tries to enhance the use of technology and knowledge in different hierarchical ways.
EXAMPLES OF TECHNOLOGY AND CONTENT KNOWLEDGE. Substitution and Augmentation are what is called Enhancement, because they do something that could be done without technology. Substitution would be using a laptop for note taking, instead of writing them by hand. Augmentation involves functional improvement. An example would be doing a worksheet online with the answers.
EXAMPLES OF TECHNOLOGY AND CONTENT KNOWLEDGE Modification and Redefinition are what is called Transformation because they provide activities that would not be possible without technology. Modification involves enhancing the assignment. An example would be adding a video to an assignment. Redefinition involves doing something that would be impossible without technology. An example would be posting an assignment on the internet.
IMPACT As I reflect on how TPACK will impact my teaching, I realize that technology will be present in every aspect of the classroom. Technology will be prevalent in one’s teaching philosophy as well as the content that will be taught. Using apps, videos, and computer programs will be very important helping engage students in the learning process.
