Selecting the Chip Selecting the Chip • Select the appropriate Chip for the gas or vapor to be measured. Please observe the following: - Gas or Vapor to be detected - Measuring range - Number of measuring channels - Read the Chip instructions - Expiration date - See back of package
Selecting the Chip Selecting the Chip • Chips should be stored in the original package to protect from direct sunlight. The effects of light can reduce shelf life and influence performance. • Only hold Chips on edges, avoid smudges. • Dirty Chips can cause problems with the optical reader and jam the drive mechanism. • Damaged, dirty, or expired Chips can lead to measurement errors. Precautions:
Turning On the Analyzer Turning On the Analyzer function test please wait • Slide switch to position 1: Analyzer performs a self-test of electronic functions. Display elements are activated:
Turning On the Analyzer Turning On the Analyzer Battery voltage is tested. Battery symbol significance: 4 battery symbols => fully charged battery voltage 1 full battery symbol => batteries must be changed!! The analyzer is delivered in the English language with the DataRecorder set in the “Man” (manual) mode. Dräger CMS V3.01 please wait Dräger CMS V3.01 please wait
Turning On the Analyzer Turning On the Analyzer Dräger CMS V3.01 load chip • Beeps when self-test is complete. • The version number of the software is displayed with the prompt to load the Chip. If the analyzer is switched off for less than one minute during use, a shorter self-test is initiated when the unit is switched on again.
Inserting the Chip Inserting the Chip • Make certain the sliding switch is in position 1. • WAIT for the “load chip” prompt. 1 Insert Chip with arrow pointing toward the analyzer and barcode up, into the Chip inlet as shown in the diagram. Only hold Chip on edges. 2 Press Chip in upward direction in order to open the blue chip inlet port. 3 Slide Chip evenly and completely into the Chip inlet.
Inserting the Chip Inserting the Chip • Analyzer reads barcode during insertion of Chip and counts number of unused channels. “barcode error” -Chip not inserted evenly “Too fast” -Chip inserted too quickly “Too slow” -Chip inserted too slowly Move slide switch to position 0, remove Chip; Move slide switch to position 1, wait for “load chip”, reinsert Chip barcode error eject chip 0 Error Message What to do:
After inserting the Chip After inserting the Chip • Top line of display shows gas to be measured. • Bottom line of display alternates between two messages: -Measuring range -Message instructing user to move slide switch to position 2 and indication of the number of available measurements (see next slide if remote attached). NH3 2 – 150 ppm NH3 start 2 06
After inserting the Chip After inserting the Chip Remote Pump Attached Pump On Pump Off NH3 2 – 150 ppm NH3 2 – 150 ppm Pump on 0:00 start 2 06 Pump off start 2 06
Chip Integrity Test - Okay Chip Integrity Test chip test please wait • Move sliding switch to position 2. Leak Test is performed. • Wait for “Chip o.k.” Chip o.k. = Chip is functional Start measure 3 = Move slide switch to position 3 to start measurement. chip o.k. start measure 3
Chip Integrity Test - Error Chip Integrity Test pump error eject chip 0 “chip error” or “pump error” Move slide switch to position 0, remove Chip; Move slide switch to position 1, reinsert Chip • If error messages continue, contact Draeger Service. Error Message What to do:
Performing a Measurement Performing a Measurement Gas Inlet • Move the slide switch to position 3. Built-in pump is activated and the air sample is drawn through the measuring channel. • Do not block the gas inlet. “chip error” or “pump error” Move slide switch to position 0, remove Chip; Move slide switch to position 1, reinsert Chip Error Message What to do: Top of Analyzer
Performing a Measurement Performing a Measurement • Display shows two alternating messages: -Type of Chip & range (see next slide if remote attached). -An indication of the measurement process. The brackets (><) indicate the duration of the measurement. The bars represent the progress of the measurement. NH3 2 – 150 ppm Measuring > <
Performing a Measurement Performing a Measurement Remote Pump Attached Pump On Pump Off Pump on 0:03 Pump off Measuring > < Measuring > <
Performing a Measurement Performing a Measurement • At the end of the measurement, the result is indicated in combination with a beep. Alternating messages will appear in the display: NH3 5.5 ppm next 2 5.5 ppm NH3 5.5 ppm analysis please wait next 2 5.5 ppm
Performing a Measurement Performing a Measurement • If the concentration is below the measuring range, the following prompt appears: <(lower measuring range) • If the concentration is higher than the measuring range, the following prompt appears: >(upper measuring range) next 2 <2 ppm next 2 >150 ppm
Concluding the Measurement(with DataRecorder in the “Manual” mode) Concluding the Measurement Store: button 5.5 ppm • Slide the switch to position 2. Alternating messages will appear in the display. • To disregard the measurement result move the slide switch to position 1. or • To store the measurement result, press and release the side button. next 1 5.5 ppm
Concluding the Measurement(in the “Manual” mode) Concluding the Measurement • Measurement result is displayed with most recently assigned location code. • If this location code is correct, move slide switch to position 1. Result is stored. • If a different code is desired, press side button to select A to H. Now move slide switch to position 1. Result is stored. Set Location 5.5 ppm D06 next 1 5.5 ppm D06
Concluding the Measurement(in the “Manual” mode) Concluding the Measurement NH3 eject chip 0 • Up to 50 measurements can be stored. • In position 1 two options appear: • Slide the switch to position 0, to eject; • Move the slide switch to position 2, to take another measurement. (see next slide if remote attached). • NOTE: The option to take measurements without removing the Chip is only available in the 300 series Analyzer (6405300) Contact Draeger Service for an upgrade NH3 start 2 05
Concluding the Measurement(in the “Manual” mode) Concluding the Measurement Remote Pump Attached Pump On Pump Off NH3 eject chip 0 NH3 eject chip 0 Pump on 3:29 start 2 05 Pump off start 2 05
Concluding the Measurement(in the “Manual” mode) Concluding the Measurement • Information from “Manual” mode: • Gas/Vapor • Concentration • Time • Date • Location Code/Sequential Number of Measurement • Note: The CMS provides a point in time measurement, valid for the time and location of the measurement.
Concluding the Measurement(with DataRecorder in the “Off” or “Auto” mode) Concluding the Measurement • Slide the switch to position 2, then on to 1. • Two options appear: • Slide the switch to position 0, to eject Chip & turn analyzer off. • Move the slide switch to position 2, to take another measurement. Dräger CMS V3.01 off NH3 eject chip 0 NH3 start 2 05
Concluding the Measurement(in the “Off” or “Auto” mode) Concluding the Measurement • If set in the “Auto” mode, the result is stored with an asterisk beside the sequential number of the measurement Information from “Auto” mode: • Gas/Vapor • Concentration • Time • Date • Sequential Number of Measurement • The result is not stored in the “Off” mode. NH3 5.5 ppm *06
