Characteristics of Homo habilis • The following were the characteristics of Homo habilis: • brain size 600 cc or greater; • jaw and teeth are human-like; • face is smaller and more flat as in humans; • tool manufacture and use seems evident. • Formation and use of tools may have started with one of australopiths with H. habilis being one of the toolmaker

  3. Emergence of Modern Humans • Homo habilis gave rise to Homo erectus. • Homo erectus-upright walkers; had larger brain, was a more creative toolmaker, social organization and communication skills must have been well developed; withstood environmental challenges by building fires and using furs for clothing. • Homo sapiens evolved from Homo erectus.
