  1. Warm up10-28-13 Looking at the different types of energy transformations to the right, explain all types of energy transfers in this picture.

  2. Electric energy is transferred from the outlet to the microwave… • The microwave oven transforms electric energy into radiant energy….. • Radiant energy is turned in to thermal energy as the popcorn kernels absorb the microwaves. This causes the kernels to become hot and pop.

  3. Potential and Kinetic Energy

  4. Kinetic Energy • Energy due to motion. • The faster an object moves, the more kinetic energy it has. • The more mass an object has the more kinetic energy it has. • ½ Mass x Velocity = Kinetic Energy

  5. Potential Energy • Energy stored due to the interactions between objects or particles. Gravitational Potential Energy – depends on height and weight. Elastic potential energy – Energy stored in objects that can stretch or compress. (springs, rubber bands). Chemical Potential Energy – is energy stored between the chemical bonds of atoms. (food, gasoline, matches)
