ELEMENT OF THE DAY • 13 – Aluminum – Al • Aluminum was once rarer and more expensive than gold, even though it is the 3rd most common element in Earth’s crust. • Aluminum is an almost ideal metal – it is cheap, lightweight, sturdy and its rust is actually harder than aluminum itself. • Recycling Aluminum uses significantly less energy than refining new aluminum.
