The Symptoms • Common symptoms: • Similar to the symptoms of a common cold/flu • Coughing with phlegm (greenish/yellowish mucus) • Chills • Shortness of breath • Experiences chest pain when breathing or coughing • Fever
Causes of Pneumonia • Virus • Bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) • Fungi Pneumocystis jiroveci
Diagnosis and Treatment • Abnormal breathing sounds: crackling • Chest x-ray • Vaccines and antibiotics • Hospitalization if needed
