  1. V for Vendetta Domino scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrwTDfdck7I 50seconds…

  2. Techniques • Music • Dialogue/voice over • Clean cuts • Symbolism • Close up

  3. MUSIC • Examples: • Music Climaxes twice • First Climax has heavy base and ends with the clock strike • Second Climax does not have as heavy base as before, instead climaxes with harmonies of high key notes and ends with the domino clicking

  4. Music • Purpose: • First climax: • Creates intensity and foreshadows that a war is going to begin (seems like soldiers are marching) • Second Climax: • Creates sense of realisation that everything that had ever happened is connected.

  5. Dialogue/Voice over -I suddenly had this feeling that everything was connected -one long chain of events that stretched all the way back before Larkhill It was like a perfect pattern, laid out in front of me. And I realised we're all part of it, and all trapped by it.-With so much chaos, someone will do something stupid. -Sutlerwill be forced to do the only thing he knows how to do. At which point, all V needs to do is keep his word. [Dominoes collapse with TV footages showing conflicts between rioting citizens and the anti-riot police]

  6. Dialogue/voice over • Purpose • To show the audience the whole situation of V’s plot and to reveal that the past, present, and future events are all connected. • It also foreshadows that someone is going to do something stupid and that is going to cause the chaos in u.K. and this is juxtapositioned by the shot of a finger man killing a girl.

  7. Clean cuts • When Mr. Finch continues his dialogue, a series of shots with clean cuts were used. • There were random shots from: • the past where Guy Fawkes dies, events in Larkhill detention camp, Sutler rising in power, explosion of the old bailey and scenes of V, evey and civilians • to the present where a girl wearing V’s mask spraying on the slogan of the Norsefire gets shot by the secret police, people surround him and kill him, News of Sutlerpreparing the civil war with his soldiers • To the future Where V gets shot by Mr. Creedy.

  8. Clean cuts • Purpose • To Reveal the connections between the events from series of shots related to Mr. Finch’s words + Mr. Finch’s explanation through dialogue. • To get the idea of the chain reaction across to the audience not only orally but by showing and comparing with the dialogue visually, so it is easier for the audience to understand the link between all the happenings from the past to the future.

  9. symbolism • The first domino that V flicked and begun the whole reaction symbolises V himself and foreshadows that he is going to do something that will bring the chaos and the destruction of the corrupted government. • The last domino left which was picked up by V represents Evey which highlights that she is going to be the decision maker and the next generation after V has done his duty. • This domino is found at the last scene beside the release switch in the train, telling the audience that Evey was the last domino and she has to make the decision.

  10. Close ups • There are several close ups of V setting up the dominos, one by one. At first, we do not know what he is making, but at the end, The whole dominos come together and shows the connections of each domino. • Other examples are the mask and the x sign on Creedy’s door.

  11. Close ups • Purpose • To highlight its importance as a motif (i.e. mask) and symbolism (domino) • The close ups of dominos being arranged showed that each domino has an importance and that they are linking to each other. • The close up of the x highlights Creedy’s decision as to take part on V’s plan.
