  2. The Issue Uganda is a country in east Africa containing some of the world’s poorest people. Ongoing 18 year war in the north, violence and child abduction. = over 2 million displaced people living in “internally displaced” camps.

  3. A Further Explanation • Severe poverty in camps • Can’t get jobs because of war, overcrowding • Government/ foreign aid in 90’s  slowed • Most live on less than $1 a day • Can’t afford food, education, or sanitation • North most effected: 70% in poverty

  6. Global Importance! • May not directly affect the entire world, but it affects EVERYONE in Uganda. (That’s a lot of people) • Ugandans desperately need help to fight poverty. If not solved with our assistance, may never happen at all.

My Global Action Plan • Join forces with the organization Bead For Life, which takes in very poor Ugandan women, and teaches them to make paper jewelry, which is then sold in Uganda and other countries. • I will host my own “bead party,” to sell the jewelry and help earn money for these women.

  8. The Steps 1. Sign up to host a party at Beadforlife.com, set date. 2. Receive shipment of jewelry and supplies in the mail. 3. Invite guests to the party; email & flyers. 4. Set up presentation/jewelry, prep for party. 5. Have fun!

  9. My Goal: $200 Actual Amount: $1,500+ Why I met my goal: -Lots of guests - Great product - Generosity/ interest

  10. -Engaging in my Global Action Plan has really affected me. I have learned so much about the struggles people face in Uganda, and it’s great to know that I am doing something to help end them. -Everyone can make a difference, whether they’re carrying out their own plan, or helping someone else to accomplish theirs. Obstacles: -Many people couldn’t attend • Triumphs: • Lots of people came • Exceeded my goal • People really wanted to help Frustrations: -Last minute date change  didn’t feel prepared/ hadn’t invited enough people yet.
