Overview • 9 weeks: February – May 2013 • You will shadow onedoctor every three weeks (in total, three different doctors for the nine week period) • You will be matched with a doctor to shadow based on your availability and interest
Process • Attend Doctor Shadowing Orientation • Turn in Questionnaire either at orientation OR 1st AED meeting • Turn in Doctor Shadowing Contract at 1st AED meeting • Check your inbox!!!! If your availability matches with a doctor, I will send you an email. You must respond within 3-4 days!! • I will confirm the appointment with the doctor and send you a confirmation email with the time and location! *LATE CONTRACTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
Requirements • Pay dues • Active status for Fall 2012 • Must have reliable means of transportation • Must bring Doctor Shadowing Contract (available on AED website) to 1st GM on February 19th • Priority given to those who attended last semester’s orientation and then on AED active status
General Rules • No group appointments • PROVIDE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION! • Show up early to your appointments • If you must miss an appointment, you MUST email BOTH the doctor ANDutaed.docshadow@gmail.comAT LEAST24 hours PRIOR. • Be respectful! Doctor shadowing is a privilege
At your appointment… • Respectpatient privacy • Do not perform or provide any medical treatment or procedure without your doctor’s permission • If you feel nauseous, sick, faint, etc. let the nurse know IMMEDIATELY!It is not uncommon to feel uneasy. • Do not be afraid to ask questions!!! • Dress professionally! Business casual with closed toed shoes. No shorts or jeans and hair tied out of your face!
Choosing Availability • Shifts will vary in duration based on doctor availability but plan for shifts of 3+ hours • You must stay for the entirety of your shift! • Be realistic when marking your availability (ie. class, traffic, etc) • Be flexible
