Albert Lea FFA Success!. History. The agriculture program started classes at Albert Lea High School in 1928, but the Albert Lea FFA chapter didn’t get chartered until 1931. Since 1991 Albert Lea has had 23 state officers.

History • The agriculture program started classes at Albert Lea High School in 1928, but the Albert Lea FFA chapter didn’t get chartered until 1931. • Since 1991 Albert Lea has had 23 state officers. • The FFA organization changed it’s name from Future Farmers of America to just The National FFA Organization in 1988 because it offered more skills than just farming
Successes • 2012-2013 Minnesota State Officer- Mic Skaar, State Sentinel • 2012-2013 Region 7 Officer- Robin Viktora, Region Historian • Grand Champion Livestock Judging Team- State Fair 2012 • 1st, 2nd, 4th and place individuals
Successes (cont.) • Grand Champion Livestock Judging Team- University of Minnesota Invitational • (90+ teams) • 4th and 8th place individuals • 1st place Region 7 General Livestock Team- Qualified for State Competition in April 2013 • 30 Schools competing in Region 7 • 7th place Region 7 Horse Evaluation Team- Qualified for State Competition in April 2013
Successes (cont.) • Competed Friday October 19 at the Minnesota Beef Expo Judging Contest • Results are pending • General Livestock and Horse Judging teams competed at the Stewartville Invitational • Minnesota State Fair • 21 exhibitors in 2011 • 16 exhibitors in 2012 • Included Grand Champion Goat Showperson • Successful food stand at the Freeborn County Fair
Career Development Event Teams • CDEs help students develop the abilities to think critically, communicate clearly, and perform effectively in a competitive job market • There are currently 24 CDEs, covering job skills from communications to mechanics • The Albert Lea FFA currently offers General Livestock Judging, Horse Judging, Fish and Wildlife, Meats Evaluation, Small Animal along with Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Creed Speaking and Job Interview Competition
Summer Camps • State Greenhand Leadership Conference (SGLC)- This is the first summer camp the FFA members can attend. This is more learning about what the organization is and what it has to offer • State Leadership Conference for Chapter Leaders(SLCCL)- This is the next camp that FFA has to offer. Here you go more in depth about leadership and what it means to be a leader • Washington Leadership Conference (WLC)- This is the last camp an FFA member can attend. It is located in Washington D.C. At this camp attendees learn to become effective leaders by teaching them to know their purpose, value people, take action and serve others
Corn Drive • FFA members drive to local farmers and ask them if they would be willing to donate any corn to the Albert Lea FFA Chapter. • With the money that is raised from this, we donate to Camp Courage, we have sponsored a kid to go to Camp Friendship, and we have bought Christmas presents for local families in need.
Miracle of Birth Center 2012 • Alex Hagen and Robin Viktora volunteered at the Miracle of Birth Center at the Minnesota State Fair • They went through a vigorous application process which included and interview • The spoke to fair-goers and answered any questions that were asked about the animal they were assigned to
Fun Facts • 72 paid members 2011-2012 • 3 members to WLC • State Fair- Champion Livestock Judging Team • 6 members to SGLC and 6 members to SLCCL this year • Miracle of Birth Center- 2 members • 8 Officers sent to Officer Retreat in Chicago
