RATE The speed at which we speak
PITCH Vocal notes you hit while speaking – the highs and lows of your voice Avoid speaking monotone! Inflection… I think that you are the best.
VOLUME Loudness or softness of your voice.
ARTICULATION OR PRONUNCIATION Articulation – crispness and distinctness with which we say the syllables in a word Pronunciation – saying the sounds of a word properly and stressing the correct syllables.
Section 3: Using Your Body Your body, like your voice, must be an extension of your message! Platform Movement Gestures
Platform Movement DO NOT: DO: Pace back and forth Wander without purpose Avoid movement altogether Move in a comfortable and relaxed manner Move toward your audience Use the 3 step method Place movement appropriately within the speech
Gestures Learn the gesture zone (stay within box) Learn to “lift and lay” your hands Practice the “string” idea
