  1. Community Health Evangelism (CHE) Dr. Tom Alley Director of Medical Services FAME “Partnering in Medical Evangelism”

  2. Foundational Principles “Medical care is the doorway for evangelism…”

  3. Prevention • Greater emphasis on prevention instead of curative medicine • Recognizes there will still be a need for curative medical care

  4. Development • Long term development instead of recurring acute relief • Communities learn to develop long-term solutions rather than receiving short-term and short-lasting relief

  5. Community Ownership • Enhances dignity of people created in God’s image and ensures lasting results • Help the local citizens identify their own problems and possible solutions • Help them identify resources they have available in their community, as well as how to access outside resources which they do not have

  6. Community Ownership • Train and engage the local citizens at the “grassroots” in teaching people in their community and meeting community needs • Active participation by the people of the community and use of participatory learning methods • Mentor mature Christian leadership

  7. Integration • Integration of spiritual and physical ministry • Addressing needs of the individual and the community holistically promotes well being of the individual physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and socially

  8. Multiplication • Principles which are transferable and thus result in multiplication into other communities, with the initiative coming from the people of the local community

  9. Enduring Ministry • The progress in a community becomes sustainable long-term without endless funding and people resources from the outside

  10. Enduring Ministry • Local volunteers are trained to serve as leaders, organizers, evangelists, and health educators focusing on disease prevention • Focus on equipping of people rather than distributing handouts • Avoid fostering dependence on foreign dollars and people

  11. Transformational Ministry Transformation of individual lives through new life in Christ results in strong families, a healthier community, and newly planted churches
