  5. How the journey began…Year 1: • UDL grant awarded for 3 years • Pilot group—1 teacher per grade level • Instructed teachers on how to integrate UDL principles and technology in their classrooms • Researched technology to assist implementing UDL principles into the classroom

  6. Year 2: • Trained entire staff using Teaching Every Child in the Digital Age • Level of Training didn’t match teachers ability • Frustration levels rose quickly. • Vision was not understood and wasn’t clearly defined.

  7. Year 3 • Realignment of UDL leadership team. • Established clear vision • Created guidelines. • Several teachers began to accept the new style of teaching • Success in classroom/KCCT scores reflect overall improvement • Installation of Intelligent Classrooms

  8. Year 4 • Development of PD • Equitable distribution of equipment • All teachers are at some level of implementation • Refine vision

  9. Why are we here? • To design a PD to get your staff up and running using UDL principles within all classrooms • To implement professional development effectively to increase student achievement that teachers can use with every child every day

What is UDL? • Providing students with multiple means of: • Presenting material • Interacting with material • Demonstrating what students know • How we are implementing: • Teacher Competency • Integrated units • Multi-sensory teaching • Multiple Intelligences • Differentiated Instruction • Performance based assessment • Technology

Refine the Vision • Gain feedback and insight on what the vision and needs are for the school. • What are the feelings of the staff? • Suggested ways to find this out… • Surveys • Team Meetings with administration • Biweekly meetings in small groups • Exit slips after staff meetings • Feedback to SBDM • Leadership Teams in place • Open door policy with administration

  13. Vision Activity • This activity can be used to engage discussion concerning targeted areas affecting student achievement. • Identify Essential Conditions • Record your school's level of progress • Identify top 3 areas with the least amount of progress • Post/Share Results • Discussion

Leadership Team • Qualities in the people that will serve on the leadership team. • Willingness to learn • Someone who is already leading within the building • Different levels of learning towards technology • Willing to contribute the time to meet regularly • Positive Attitude • Small group (4-8) made up of administration, teachers, and district staff
