  1. Cannock Chase U3AScience & Technology Group How Intelligent is YOUR Robot? Here’s an idea... Barry James & Ernie Prevost cannockchaseu3a@gmail.com

  2. Let me ask you something • Are there any constructors in your U3A science group? • Has your U3A science group thought of using a programmable device for a project? • Is there a project that could combine the two? • Of course there is!

  3. So How about a Challenge?Build a Robot! • Then Enter the U3A Challenge event • Crazy Golf • Skittles • Egg & Spoon Race • Autonomous challenges • White line following • Maze

  4. How could this help your U3A? • Encourages collaboration between group members. • Learning about something new. • Planning and building a construction. • Learning about the use of practical latest technology. • Encourages collaboration with local organisations that may help with their knowledge. • Encourages competitions between U3As or regions. • It’s fun. • Isn’t that the U3A ethos?

  5. And the Typical Challenges? Skittles Egg & Spoon Race U3A Crazy Golf

  6. What will you need? • Inspiration……and plenty of exasperation. • A team plan……That might meet the rules. • A desire to learn something new. • A chassis, homemade or otherwise. • Motors to drive it. • A radio control system. • Adaptations to suit the challenges. • Maybe a programmable device to help with sensors. • What’s that?

  7. Sensor Inputs & Outputs For advanced challengesProgrammable devices • Raspberry PI • Python coding • Arduino • C++ coding • Picaxe • “Basic” coding Actuation Outputs Sensor Inputs Sensors

  8. Can you help us share this? AnyTown U3A • So please take this idea back to your U3As • Quiz your Science groups, or construction groups • Tell them documents are available • Fill in the sign-up list for documents by email. • There must be loads of experience in your U3A: • Mechanical engineering • Electrical / Electronic engineering • Software engineering • Constructors • Please let us know of your interest in the challenge. • Come to the U3A Robot Constructor’s Challenge.
