What is Nanotechnology? • „There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom“This is the title of a lecture given by the Father of Nano-technology Richard Phillips Feynman (1959). • The mastermind of nano-technology already knew at that time that there was a phenomenal potential for tiny (nano-) structures in the world. • Nano-technology involves the development, manufacture and application of systems that are composed of nanometre sized (10-9 m) components. • A nanometre equals a millionth of a millimetre. • Materials with basic units of only a few nanometres, open the door to a new dimension of material development. Structures that just a few years ago were deemed to be physically unachievable, have now slipped into feasibility. With systems of this scale, completely new product characteristics, functions and processes have been achieved.
When particles are created with dimensions of about 1–100 nanometers (where the particles can be “seen” only with powerful specialized microscopes), the materials’ properties change significantly from those at larger scales. Nanoscale materials have far larger surface areas than similar masses of larger-scale materials. NanoSafe® Glass Premium • NanoSafe® Glass Premium is a dirt-repelling coating formula for applying to ceramic and glass subs. • Examples of use: • Glass surfaces in sanitary areas (showers, mirrors) • Glazed ceramic surfaces (toilets, sinks, glazed tiles) • Window glass + construction glass (conservatories, high-rise buildings) • Automotive glass (front + side windows) • Product characteristics: • Strong hydrophobicity • Strong anti-stick properties • Excellent easy--clean performance on contamination and lime-scale • Other properties: • Food-safe (inert) • Invisible to the human eye (coating thickness: 100-150 nm) • Permanent (UV-stable, enormous abrasion-resistance) • Resistant to temperature change • Breathable • Simple application (do-it-yourself) • Chemical-resistant (except for pH value of 13 or 14)
Nano-coatings, based on silicon dioxide for stones (mineral surfaces) • Examples of use: • Every type of porous surface with a mineral-based origin • Concrete, Lime stone and Sandstone • Concrete blocks, Porous granite / marble • Roof tiles / clay / Terracotta • Product characteristics: • Strong hydrophobic + oleophobics • Strong non-stick properties • Excellent easy-clean effect regarding deposits of air pollution • Advantages: • No influence on the appearance of the substrate (Layer thickness: 100-150 nm) • Hardening at room temperature. No additional energy or UV light required. • Solvent-free and odourless • Excellent Hydro and Oleophobic properties • Pressure wash-resistant (50 - 60 bar) • Excellent efficiency with low quantity consumption • No colour infiltration to coated substrates. • High temperature-resistance - UV-stable • Absolute frost-resistance
Nano-coatings, based on silicon dioxide for textiles • Examples of use: • Clothing • Household textiles (pillows, furniture), carpets • Suede/leather • Paper, cardboard • Product characteristics: • Strong hydrophobics and oleophobics • Strong non-stick properties • Excellent easy-clean effect for contamination and liquids • Protection of fibres from the infiltration of dirt • Other properties: • Food-safe (inert) • Invisible to the human eye (coating thickness: 100-150 nm) • Permanent (UV-stable, very resistant to abrasion) • Temperature resistant • Breathable • Simple application (do-it-yourself) • Washing and cleaning agent resistance
