2. Curriculum and Instruction Student Access Opportunities for arts experiences are provided in the four areas of visual art, music, dance, and drama. Students create, perform, and respond in each area. Opportunities are also provided through choir and GT art. Exhibit of artwork from art class. Playing instruments in music class.

3. Curriculum and Instruction Student Access Students had fun dancing at school Valentine’s Dance. 4th and 5th grade GT students attended the musical Once Upon A Mattress.

4. Curriculum and Instruction Student Access 4th and 5th Choir End-of-Semester Concert. Exhibited work of GT art student.

5. Curriculum and Instruction Student Access 4th graders visited the Artisan Center in Berea and the Lexington Philharmonic in Lexington.

6. Curriculum and Instruction Student Access All students sang at school-wide Veteran’s Day Program. All students sang at school-wide Christmas Sing-A-Long.

7. Curriculum and Instruction Student Access Three London teachers taught visual and performing arts at GT camp. Many current and former London students participated.

Curriculum and Instruction Aligned and Rigorous Curriculum The arts curriculum encompasses creating, performing, and responding; is fully aligned with Kentucky Core Academic Standards; provides for the development of arts literacy in all four arts disciplines; includes the study of exemplary work;, and provides opportunities for integration between the arts and other content areas. Students create with a variety of media in art class .

Mr. Woodward, local wood turner. Guest artist attended school-wide career fair to demonstrate and display artwork.

12. Curriculum and Instruction Instructional Strategies Teachers incorporate the arts into classroom activities as seen here with the school-wide performance of the chicken dance and third grade pumpkin characters.

13. Curriculum and Instruction Instructional Strategies School-wide Barn Dance After-school activity provided opportunities for creating and performing.

Curriculum and Instruction Student Performance Students are actively engaged in creating, performing and responding and are encouraged to participate in juried events, exhibitions, contests and performances. Students performed on traditional instruments at the school Barn Dance. Students created 3-D artwork to celebrate holidays and seasons.

15. Curriculum and Instruction Student Performance Juried Events Chicken sculptures created by GT art students showcased and judged at contest as part of community Chicken Festival. Selected choir members participated in SKMA All-Festival Children’s Chorus.

18. Formative and Summative Assessment Assessment Teachers use assessments aligned with Kentucky standards and guide students with peer reviews and critiques. Music curriculum includes built-in assessments given at the end of every lesson.

19. Formative and Summative Assessment Assessment Students completed peer reviews to select their favorite student composition. Self and Peer Review of artwork in art class.

20. Formative and Summative Assessment Expectations for Student Learning Teachers use exemplary models and clearly defined rubrics in guiding students toward demonstration of rigorous growth. A clearly defined rubric and model were used in guiding students toward composing, notating, and performing original music. 5th grade students performed the Virginia Reel after seeing the dance modeled.

21. Formative and Summative Assessment Assessment for Teaching Teachers provide meaningful feedback on student performances and products and students reflect on the work of others and themselves for the purpose of artistic growth. Teachers provide feedback on student work. Here the art teacher commented on a student’s reflection of arts field trip.

22. Professional Development Opportunity/Participation Professional learning opportunities lead to student learning. Music teacher attended session on incorporating choir chimes in music class at KMEA conference. With help from a PTO fundraiser they were purchased and played by students.

23. Administrative / Leadership Support and Monitoring Policies and Monitoring Policies ensure discipline based arts instruction is a part of the school curriculum. 2nd graders attended the production of “Alice in Wonderland” 5th graders dressed in character for career day.

24. Administrative / Leadership Support and Monitoring Principal Leadership The principal supports arts programs and communicates with parents and community about upcoming arts events. Principal informs parents about arts events as evidenced by large percent of student participation in school-wide events.
