  1. The Motherboard The motherboard was made to hold the CPU and allow the owner to upgrade the machine on their own.

  2. THE CPU Central processing unit The original Pentium laid flat on the motherboard but the Pentium 2&3 stood upright. The new Pentium 4 lays flat like the original Pentium. The CPU is the brain of the computer The original Pentium and the Pentium 4 is square. The Pentium 2&3 is rectangular.

  3. AGP Expansion Slot The Agp expansion slot is used for the video card. It has faster data transfer than a pci port. The better the video card is the better the resolution.

  4. Case Fan Case fans are inexpensive but are crucial to the computer The case fan keeps the components of the computer cool because heat damages the components

  5. PCI Port A pci port is used for anything form video cards to network cards. It is 32-bit and can run at speeds of 66mb. Newer versions run at 64-bit

  6. ISA Slot The ISA slot was one of the first card slots. By adding onto the size if the slot the makers have boosted the speed. There are 8,16(shown above), and 32-bit.

  7. RAM stands for random access memory. It is used by the processor to temporally store data that it is working with. RAM

  8. Power Supply The power supply (obviously) powers the computer. There are certain connectors for certain things like there are plugs for the motherboard and certain plugs for hard drives and and disk drives.

  9. IDE Cables The IDE cables are used to connect the hard drives, CD-ROM, disk drives, and serial ports to the motherboard.
