SSMC meeting • The PAB meeting was held on 24th April, 2012 to appraise and approve the MDM plan of the State for the year 2012-13. • The PAB suggested that the SSMC meeting to be convened under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary of the State and approve the plan of 2012-13. • The SSMC meeting was convened on 17th May, 2012 and representative of MHRD [DIR(GP)] attended the meeting and share the observations of the MHRD.
Contd…. • The SSMC reviewed the Plan in depth and recommended following measures for effective implementation of the Scheme: • Release of funds and rice in advance together . • Timely payment of honorarium to cook-cum-helpers • Revision of transportation rate keeping in view the problem of the hilly districts of the State. • Setting up of the monitoring mechanism in the State • Convergence with School Health Programme under NRHM • State Mission Director of NRHM informed that 700 schools will be covered under SHP in year 2012-13. • 109 Master Trainers have been trained to impart training to teachers to avoid work load of screening of children on officials of Health Department • Evaluation study by reputed Institute. • Use of MIS integrated with IVRS. • Early construction of kitchen-cum-stores.

Findings of Monitoring Institute Districts Covered :Bishnupur and Thoubal 5% of the schools visited were not serving meals regular due to irregular supply of food grains and cooking cost in Thoubal There is delay in the release of cooking cost Quality and quantity of food was not good and children are not happy with MDM served in their school. Payment to cook-cum-helpers is not regular. Most of the schools have only one cook in Thoubal district. The food grains are stored in houses of cooks/ Head Master/SMC chairman/school office room etc.
Contd.. 6. There is no health check-ups carried out in schools, health cards are not maintained, and micronutrients are not provided to the students. 7. None of the schools displayed their weekly menu at a noticeable place. 8. Majority of the schools (87.5%) are having the problem of inadequate utensils. 9. Community Participation is very low
ISSUES No information is provided about coverage under SHP. No data on Inspections carried out during 2011-12. Only one SSMC meeting was held during FY 2011-12.
