Parts of Plot. Plot = a series of events (actions) leading to, or causing another . Each event is dependant upon the previous event being completely conveyed. First Part: Exposition. The introduction to: Characters Setting (where a story takes place)

First Part: Exposition • The introduction to: • Characters • Setting (where a story takes place) • Objectivesandmotivations of the character.
Second Part:The Narrative Hook: • Introduction of the primaryobstacle • Remember:Obstacle provides conflict • No Conflict = No Story
Third Part: The Rising Action • Character employs a series of distincttacticsin an attempt to overcome the centralobstacle/conflict. .
Rising Action Continued • Important note: As eachtacticfails, the character’s frustration andstakes progressively rise- as does the audience’s interest • Rising Action =the longest part of a story
Fourth Part:The Climax • Often called the “high point” of the story • The point where the character makes "the final push" to achieve objective. • Occurs at the highest moment of intensity and emotion for the character (and audience) • During a good climax, the audience demands to know “what happens next!” • Climax signified by final tactic
Fifth and Sixth Parts:Falling Action and Resolution • Communicates the results of the character succeeding or failing to achieveobjective. • Key Point: A successful story often contains a character that has undergone some change or discovery, as a result of succeeding or failing to achieveobjective.
