2. 1.Title/Author/Genre/ Point of View • The author writes the story but is not in the story • Genre is the type of literature. It can be Short Story, Fiction, Nonfiction, Drama or Poetry. • Point of View. A piece of literature can be toldby a person in the story (First Person) or by a Narrator (Third Person).

3. 2. Setting • When and where the story takes place.

4. 3. Characters • The people or sometimes animals that are in the story. • Protagonist-is the main character; sometimes known as the hero. • Antagonist-the character in conflict with the Protagonist (the bad guy).

5. 4. Exposition • What is happening as the story begins. • The exposition will include information about the setting and the characters.

6. 5. Rising action • Events that occur before the Climax. Before you discuss the rising action, you must determine what the climax of the story is.

7. 6. Climax • The turning point of the story • The point of highest interest and suspense • Usually occurs near the end of the story

8. 7. Falling action • Denouement-the events that occur after the climax.

9. 8. conflict • Internal: Man vs. Himself • External: • Man vs. Man • Man vs. Nature • Man vs. Society

10. 9. resolution • How the conflict is resolved • How the story ends

11. 10. themes • Lessons that you can learn from a story that you can apply to your life. • The “Big Idea” • There can be many themes for every story
