  2. What is it? • Fibrous Dysplasia occurs when bone gets destroyed and replaced with bone tissue

  3. Symptoms • Bone Sores • Difficulty walking • Endocrine Gland issues • Unusual skin color • Uneven growth of bones

  4. Prevalence • Occurs in childhood • Between 3-15 years • Very uncommon • No single sex is affected more than another

  5. Causes • The cause is unknown • Believed to be caused by chemical abnormality in bone protein • It is not hereditary

  6. Treatments • Surgery to remove the affected bone • Removal of bone wedge • Place a rod down shaft of bone • Pain management • Medication • Physical therapy

  7. Complications • Bone deformity • The bone can bend • May cause scoliosis • Loss of vision and hearing • Arthritis • Very rare, but cancer

  8. Facts • Any bone can be affected • Most common bones: femur, tibia, ribs, skull, facial bones, humorous, pelvis and the spine • No way to prevent it
