Brief on makerere university • Makerere University, Kampala (/məˈɛrəri/mə-KERR-ər-ee;[6] MUK) is Uganda's largest and third-oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. In 1963, it became the University of East Africa, offering courses leading to general degrees from the University of London. It became an independent national university in 1970 when the University of East Africa was split into three independent universities: University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and Makerere University. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.
Makerere has a relatively beautiful environment with lots of space.
MAKERERE HAS A GOOD NUMBER OF COLLEGES AND OFFERS MANY COURSES
Makerere university: THE GOOD • Has a charter and therefore can be identified internationally. • Makerere University also hosts a lot of conferences which opens students up to different debates and provides learning opportunities outside the lecture room
Makerere university: THE BAD Makerere university has a lot of outdated and antagonistic policies that encourage strikes among the students and staff. Every semester for more than the past 5 years, there has been a strike at Makerere University.
THE UNIVERSITY is also facingan increase in the sexual harassment cases. Makerere University unfortunately is not as strict as it should be about lecturers sexually harassing students and this affects its reputation.
CONCLUSION Makerere university is a great institution that struggles with issues caused by errors in administration and student radicalism.
