INTRODUCTION The aim of this paper was to determine water quality of The Morava e Binçës River. Morava e Binçës springs in Binçë (VITI). This river flows through many urban places, and recently it is like sewage collector of urban and industrial facilities. There are some streams and water bearers from different agricultural soil drainage that flow into Morava e Binçës River. Both water protection from pollution and managing issues have a strategic importance for Kosova.
SAMPLING Collection of material (samples) started in spring 2005 until autumn 2005. The place where we have taken sample 500-1000m from potential source of pollution. Sample places: • A1 Viti (spring in Binçë) • A2 Viti (town) • A3 Viti (Budrigë) • A4 Gjilan (Velekincë) • A5 Gjilan (Miresh)
CONCLUSION Based on obtained results regarding Morava e Binçës River in comparison with Directives of Europian Union water of this river does not fulfill condition even for waters of II category. In some points river belongs to III and IV category. This mean that this water currently can not be used for recreation, cultivation of fish etc.
RECOMMENDATION A long and uncontrolled discharge of municipal sewage water, agriculture and industrial waste in Morava e Binçës River, inflicted the change of water’s quality. It is special importance to treat polluted water prior to discharge in the bank of the river. Investments should be done to set up new technologies for water treatment, and establish a country-wide monitoring net.
