Advisory Project Student Guide! To help students for the TechYes Advisory Project
An Introduction: Why we are doing this Since we are Sophomores, we will do a technology based project to show and illustrate our understanding of the college application process, how we will get there, and what the potential barriers to getting there will be. We will also practice and prove that we are experts that can use appropriate technology.
What is Wix? Wix is a free service where you can create exciting websites and mobile apps capable of customization, authentication, and publication. On Wix you're able to add: text, pictures, videos, frames, and your own background. We will use Wix to create our semester project for Advisory. We will use a Driving Question to fuel our project.
Driving Question Driving question: How does my race/gender/socio-economic status/cultural upbringing affect my opportunities when applying to college? General Theme: Societal implications in the college application process. Supporting Questions: • How did the Common Application come about (history)? • How might any of the Future Plans requirements influence your own future plans, either with your career, major, or college of choice? • How might a family’s citizenship status influence the road to college? • What are some basic facts on race and higher education in the United States? • How does where you come from (or any of the factor listed in the guiding question) affect your SAT/ACT/standardized test scores? • How can a student use their background to write an essay that describes them as an ideal applicant to a college/university?
How to Complete the Project How does my race/gender/socio-economic status/cultural upbringing affect my opportunities when applying to college? We will create a Wix website/mobile app to illustrate the answer to this driving question. If you need help with the process, refer to this how-to-guide. Be sure to include pictures and at least 1 video! Publish your Wix once you’re finished and upload it to the TechYES website.
