  4. Recruit Training • Fourteen (14) weeks: • State Fire Marshal (SFM) Firefighter One (approx. 416 hrs.) • Medical Training (approx. 56 hrs.) • Drivers Training (approx. 24 hrs.) • Pump & Aerial Operations (approx. 70 hrs.) • Rescue Systems I, Hazardous Materials

  10. Weekly Testing • Ten (10), each consisting of • Four manipulative evaluations • Fifty (50) question written exam • Final written Exam in the 12th week is a 150 question test. • All testing is cumulative in content

  11. EMS Training • Approved by the State and San Francisco Emergency Medical Service Association • Must pass baseline of tests for local medical certifications • Must pass all practical examinations • Local EMSA certification exam requirement

  12. Firefighter Requirements: • Passing score on all manipulative examinations is 75% • Fire or EMS • Failing a manipulative will result in deficiencies

  13. Manipulative Evaluations • Deficiency Points: • 74% - 72% 1 deficiency • 71% - 68% 2 deficiencies • 67% - 64% 3 deficiencies • 63% - 60% 4 deficiencies • 59% - BELOW 5 deficiencies

  14. Written Test Scoring • Minimum passing score is 75% • 74-65 points=1 deficiency point • 64 and below=2 deficiency points

  15. Demerits • Relate to conduct and attendance problems • Scale of 1-5 demerits

  21. INSPECTIONS • Every Monday morning, or first work day of the week at the DOT or TI • Personnel inspection • Gear inspection • Shoes cleaned and shined • Male recruits-”shaving” • Random inspections

  23. Additional Training • Daily on non-test days 0700 to 0800 or 1700-1800

  25. Quizzes & Evaluations • 10- Written quizzes • 50 questions multiple choice • 1 - Final written examination • Manipulative evaluations each week

  26. Weekly Test Scores • Score Sheets will be handed out the Monday after testing at or after 1300 hours. • Recruits who receive deficiencies: • Receive counseling from Recruit Captain

  27. Deficiency Points • 10 deficiencies=counseling by CD3 • 20 deficiencies or more=recommendation to Chief of Department for termination • Supported by documentation from Recruit Lieutenants and Recruit Captain • Based on total Fire/EMS testing

  28. Rules & Regulations • Demerits will be issued for infractions of recruit and department Rules & Regulations • Serious offenses could result in termination from the Department • Cheating during exams and evaluations will result in termination

  29. Reading Assignments • Recruits are responsible for all handouts • Testing can cover all lectures, handouts, videos, manuals and manipulative materials covered • It is “cumulative”
