The OPMS Process(in outline) Using the“Operating System for the Human Mind”!
Stage 1: Initiate Action Plan • Identify Mission • 1st Trigger Question - THINGS TO DO • List of THINGS TO DO • Create ISM from THINGS TO DO - Intent Structure • Initiate Action Plan from Intent Structure • Create FR from THINGS TO DO if required
Stage II: Integrate ways to overcome Barriers, etc • 2nd Trigger Question - BARRIERS/ DIFFICULTIES/THREATS (BDT) • List of BDT • Identify ways to overcome BDT • Integrate ways to overcome BDT into Action Plan • Create FR from BDT if required, link to Action Plan
Stage III: Integrate ways to to use STRENGTHSavailable, create STRENGTHS needed etc • 3rd Trigger Question - STRENGTHS • List of STRENGTHS • Identify ways to use STRENGTHS, to create STRENGTHS • Integrate ways of using STRENGTHS available, create STRENGTHS needed into Action Planning • Create FR of STRENGTHS available/ STRENGTHS required - Integrate with Action Plan
Stage IV: Integrate ways to overcome WEAKNESSES • 4th Trigger Question - WEAKNESSES • List of WEAKNESSES • Identify ways to overcome WEAKNESSES • Integrate ways of overcoming WEAKNESSES into Action Planning • Create FR from WEAKNESSES (join into BDT FR if felt appropriate) integrate with Action Plan
Stage V: Integrate ways avail OPPORTUNITIES • 5th Trigger Question - OPPORTUNITIES • List of OPPORTUNITIES • Identify ways to avail OPPORTUNITIES • Integrate ways of availing OPPORTUNITIES into Action Planning • Create FR from OPPORTUNITIES - Integrate with Action Plan
Stage VI: Identify Events/Milestones • 6th Trigger Question - EVENTS/MILESTONES • List of EVENTS/MILESTONES • Identify ways to ensure occurrence of EVENTS/ MILESTONES -- Integrate ways of ensuring occurrence of planned EVENTS/MILESTONES into Action Planning • Create FR with EVENTS/MILESTONES - Integrate with Action Plan
Using OPMS, people involved can always see the linkages between the various dimensions of the OPMS: A: THINGS TO DO HINDER HELP ACCOMPLISH B: BARRIERS HELP OVERCOME C: STRENGTHS
Activities HINDER HELP ACCOMPLISH B: Barriers/Weaknesses HELPOVERCOME Strengths required …more linkages… Opportunities HELP AVAIL
MISSION HELP ACCOMPLISH Opportunities HELP AVAIL Activities HINDER HELP ACCOMPLISH B: Barriers/Weaknesses HELPOVERCOME Strengths required
These models can become as detailed as required, right down to the level of… WHICHBARRIERhinders WHICH ACTIVITY? WHICH STRENGTH is required to overcome WHICH BARRIER? All this and more becomes clear as the OPMS is developed!
Linkages between ‘BARRIERS’ & ‘THINGS TO DO’ Thebarrier marked in the FR HINDERS / PREVENTSaccomplishment of the objectivemarkedin the ISM (and all objectives above it)!
Such inter-relationships can be established rigorously right through the Mission - on a more or less real-time basissimply by using the OPMS approach!
All that’s required is that key people involved with the Mission spend about 15-30 minutes each day on their individual Missions within the group Mission
Time Requirements, on average: • Individual level (key people): 15mts to 1/2 hour EACH DAY for each Mission taken up • Group/section requirements - as found convenient (but some regular schedule to be maintained) • Division requirements - as per group • Organisation - as convenient - say, 1/2-1 Day every month or so (after familiarisation)
Stage VIIa: Create PLANNING SYSTEM • ‘Pull down’ the planning elements into the PLANNING SYSTEM Dimension • Add needed elements • Develop Planning Group • Create ‘Planning Budget’ - Integrate into Total Budget
Stage VIIb: Create INFORMATION SYSTEM • ‘Pull down’ the Information System elements into the INFORMATION SYSTEM Dimension • Add needed elements • Develop Information System (IS) Group • Create ‘IS Budget’ - Integrate into Total Budget
Stage VIIc: Create MARKETING SYSTEM • ‘Pull down’ the Marketing System elements into the MARKETING SYSTEM Dimension • Add needed elements • Develop Marketing System (MS) Group • Create ‘MS Budget’ - Integrate into Total Budget
Stage VIId: Create PRODUCTION SYSTEM • ‘Pull down’ the Production System elements into the PRODUCTION SYSTEM Dimension • Add needed elements • Develop Production System (PS) Group • Create ‘PS Budget’ - Integrate into Total Budget
Stage VIIe: Create MONITORING & EVALUATION SYSTEM • Decide the THINGS TO DO to be monitored • Use Monitoring Tool - define WHO? - WHEN? - HOW MUCH? • Develop Monitoring Charts
Stage VIIf: Create FINANCE CONTROL SYSTEM • Articulate the Financial Controls on the whole OPMS • Integrate into the ‘Accounting System’ and Accounting Software
Stage VIIg: PROBLEM SOLVING SYSTEM & LEARNING SYSTEM • The underlying Problem Solving & Learning Systems are built into the OPMS - remember thatthey are processes of the mind! • Check out the documentation within the OPMS--- create an OPMS yourself to understand these systems thoroughly • Create models of your own to define any special items needed in your system - you can add them to the P-S & the L-S of your OPMS
