  2. Nine Tips to Save Energy with your Desktop or Laptop • Shut it down when not in use (beats hybernate) • Enable energy saving settings (screen, sleep) • Reduce screen brightness • Enable sleep mode on harddrive • Eliminate unnecessary processes (Bluetooth) • Use a good (matching) AC adapter • Use energy saving power socket • Virtualize your computer • Upgrade your computer when possible

  3. Flat Screens vs. CRTS Switching from CRT to flat screen technology reduces power consumption by more than 50 percent power in normal operating mode, providing that • energy related criteria are factored into LCD flat screen procurement decisions; and • power management options such as the following are activated while the screen is in use: • The screen should have a readily accessible off button, preferably on the front. • The device must switch to Sleep Mode as soon as it receives the relevant command from the controller, whereupon power consumption is not to exceed 2 watts. The maximum allowable power consumption in Off Mode is 1 watt. These requirements are consistent with the new EnergyStar criteria. • However this savings may not be true for Flat Screen TVs .. Why?
