Koa Tree • Oldest known and one of the tallest trees in Hawaii • Wood salt tolerant; was used to make surfboards, boats, canoes • Bark and leaves used for medicine • Now state-protected
HalaTree • Found throughout the Pacific • Grows fruit • Used to make hats, mats, roofing, paint brushes, food, leis, water pipes
Hibiscus • 250 varieties • Common Hibiscus is Hawaii’s state flower • Each island has official flower

Hawaiian Goose • On the islands for 500,000 years • Related to Giant Canada Goose • Hawaii’s state bird • Fighting extinction; now have stable populations (800) • Mongoose
