  4. Species A species is a group of individuals that can reproduce viable offspring. Speciation is the process where individuals are reproductively isolated from one another. Over time, their DNA mutates. The new populations are no longer able to reproduce with one another.

  5. Reproductive Isolation When individuals of a particular species are unable to mate due to behavior, temporal, or geographic barriers.

  6. Geographic Isolation A geographic barrier divides a population of organisms. Ex. The Kaibab and Albert Squirrels of the Grand Canyon

  7. Temporal Isolation When a group of organisms mates at different times. Ex. Trees produce flowers at different times

  8. Behavioral Isolation Two groups of organisms have different mating rituals.
