State of BU • Overall fiscal health of university is strong • Endowment down but beat S&P 500 • Expanded financial aid support for entering Class of 2013 – more students received aid (52%) and average aid rose to 6.5% ($22,625) • Much-needed expanded housing – StuVi II residence opened in September • Presidential visits to China, South Korea, India, and the Middle East
Fall 2009 Admissions • Undergrad applications highest in seven years • SOT had more than 800 apps for frosh class of 69 students; second-highest yield at BU (43%) • 170 total entering undergrads • 9% increase since last year, highest since 2006
Fall 2009 Admissions • Graduate applications increased across all three schools • Highest # grad applicants in seven years • 1258 total entering grads • 8% increase since last year; highest since 2005
Fall 2009 Admissions • Online Graduate Admissions • 317 students enrolled through CFA • 177 Master of Music Ed • 52 Doctoral of Music Arts • 88 Master of Art Ed • First Year of Art Ed • Graduated 2nd online DMA in September

State of CFA • Announcement to faculty re: formation of dean search committee made on Oct. 1 • Addresses unique situation at CFA • Aligns with renewed strategic planning taking place across BU • CFA in strong position to stay on course and build on growing momentum
State of CFA • President Brown has asked all deans to renew strategic planning process • Will address both academic and funding priorities • Moving CFA global initiatives to the forefront • Hugh O’Donnell featured Kleh Lecturer in London • SOM and SVA projects in China • Ability to partner with numerous BU abroad programs across the world
State of CFA • Capital Campaign Update ($5M) • Overall gifts and pledges increased 11% last year • Closing in on Phase 1.1 goal of $7.5M • Two new practice studios named • New University capital donor recognition policy • Awarded $400K grant from MCFF toward Concert Hall renovations (Phase 1.2)
State of CFA • CFA Annual Funds ($183,652) • Increased 33% last year; attributed to several large gifts, but also to sustained participation from loyal parents and alumni • Of total annual funds, 55% were gifts of $1K or more • 22 of 32 AFLGS members renewed their support; 9 members increased their contributions • BUTI achieved 17% increase in gift and grant contributions
State of CFA • Faculty and staff solicitation in the spirit of Feltenstein Challenge made a big impact - $13,320 to InCite, BUTI, and CFA Annual Funds
State of CFA • Facilities Renovations • Completely renovated practice studios and Harris Center opened in time for Sept classes • Additional repairs to Marshall Room, 2nd floor student lounge, painting studios at 808, and in Commonwealth Gallery • Formal dedication Harris Center and named practice studios 4:00 pm today; tours begin at 3:00 pm
Alumni Networks • Promotion of Colleen Walsh Powell to Assistant Director of Alumni Networks, West Coast • New structure across university to align affiliations, break down school-based silos • Opportunity to build west coast efforts for COM and CFA
