Graduation Requirements 4 credits of English Hon Eng 9 or Eng 9 Hon Eng 10 or Eng 10 AP Lang, Hon Eng 11, or Eng 11 AP Lit, Hon Eng 12, or Eng 12 3 credits of Social Studies Govt., US History & World History 4 credits of Math (if no completer) Algebra I or Alg A/B Intermediate Alg/DA Geometry Algebra II/DA 3 credits of Science Biology I 1 credit of Fine Arts Foundations of Technology 1 credit of Physical Ed (2 classes) ½ credit of Health ½ credit of Financial Literacy (grades 11-12) 2 credits of same World Language or 2 credits of Advanced Technology and/or a Completer Program

Math Requirements for graduation and for Admission to a Maryland State College or University Algebra I DA Intermediate Algebra DA Geometry and Algebra II DA Students must take either Algebra II/DA, Trigonometry/Pre-calculus, Calculus, or Statistics during the final/Senior year of high-school. You are required to complete up to Algebra 2. It is recommended to have Algebra 2 before or during your junior year of high school to help you on your SAT/ACT. You must have math in your senior year. If you are not college-bound and doing a completer program, you will meet with your counselor to discuss options.

Students must PASS allHigh School Assessment Tests (Algebra, English (after English 10), Biology) Students must complete 75 service learning hours Students must earn a minimum total of 25 credits A minimum of 4 credits must be earned your senior year Students must attend 4 years of high school beyond the 8th grade

  6. Dual Completers Many colleges want to see a career focus through your course work. A completer program or a career major is a great way to take classes you find interesting and gain career awareness. Let your counselor know what you are interested in and they can help recommend courses and make sure you have the requirements for each program.

  10. CCCTC’s Completer Program Requirements Very competitive- applicants come from all county high schools. Looking for: Good grades, at least 2.0 GPA Good attendance, at least 94% Course work that is relevant to program Meet pre-requisites for program Can visit CCCTC to look at programs more closely Applications in School Counseling Office, mailed home in Fall of 10th Grade Open House- Next October at CCCTC

  11. Liberty’s Schedule Liberty runs on a 4 mod day schedule. What does this mean? We have four marking periods which make up two semesters. Each semester (Fall/Spring) is 18 weeks long. Classes meet for 83-88 minutes. Classes are either 1 credit (meeting every day for 1 semester or every other day for a year) or ½ credit (meeting every other day for a semester) Lunch is assigned according to your third mod class. Students can earn a total of 8 credits per year.

Create smaller learning communities Connect with a caring adult Meet new friends Foster parent involvement What? Help review course scheduling Point you in the right direction Update Portfolio

  14. PAWS“Promoting Achievement With Students” Students report to their advisory group every day after first mod for 30 minutes. On Mondays, they work on advisory lessons and Tuesday-Friday are for PAWS. PAWS is an enrichment time for students to receive extra help from teachers, attend club meetings, see their school counselor, and complete make-up assignments.

  15. How do I select classes? Begin with academics, consider your current performance and level of class. Consider your teacher recommendations that were sent home to you and your parents/guardians. Discuss with your parents/guardians. Signatures are required!! Levels chosen determine difficulty and amount of homework. You do not have to select all your academics at the same level. Read course descriptions in the Program of Studies, check for prerequisites.

  16. What else should I consider when selecting classes? Next, consider graduation requirements and recommendations for freshmen: Health, P.E. I, Foundations of Technology, Teen Leadership, LET ( JROTC) @ Century. Remember, some of your electives create opportunities to explore career ideas, such as courses in Business, Agriscience, Child Development, or Family & Consumer Science. Prerequisites, ex: Art I is needed before moving on to Art II, PE I is needed before other PE courses. Once you choose your courses during the scheduling nights in February, it can be very difficult to change them.

Course Selection Sheets & Program of Studies Books Levels of Courses 1 (basic) 6 (academic) 8 (honors) 9 ( advanced placement) All course descriptions are in the Program of Studies- please read to make sure you know what you are signing up for. Must Choose Alternates courses: 2 (½) credit and 2 (1.0) credit. Use PENCIL ONLY!!! Keep in mind graduation requirements. Must have 8 credits total.

Future Opportunities Advanced Placement Courses (AP) Career & Technology Completer Programs Internships Concurrent Enrollment To be eligible for these opportunities, keep your grades up, have good attendance, & complete your service hours. Please let your School Counselors know if you have questions or would like to plan ahead for one of these great opportunities.

  19. Scheduling Nights Feb 2nd or Feb 6th Make sure you mark your calendar with the conference date and time that was mailed to your home. You will be meeting with your high school advisor about course selections for next year. Counselors will be available to help with questions also. We encourage you to come with your parent and/or guardian!

  20. Liberty High School Course Request Registration Sheet 2012-2013 Name: Advisor: Grade: LHS will make every effort to schedule the courses you select. We reserve the right to make schedule changes in the event of conflicts, insufficient course enrollment, or when teacher services are not available to teach the course. Seniors and juniors will be given preference in a course that is needed for graduation or a completer program. Teachers are hired and books and materials are purchased based upon the choices made on course selection sheets. No person will be denied admission to any school, program, or course of study in Carroll County Schools on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or handicap.
