Welcome to Fourth Grade !. Mrs. Block. Nancy Bierschbach Block. I grew up in Webster. I graduated from the University of South Dakota. I taught second grade in Wyoming, fifth/sixth grade in Minnesota, and Head Start in Webster. I have been teaching at Webster since 1999.

  1. Welcome to Fourth Grade ! Mrs. Block

  2. Nancy Bierschbach Block • I grew up in Webster. • I graduated from the University of South Dakota. • I taught second grade in Wyoming, fifth/sixth grade in Minnesota, and Head Start in Webster. • I have been teaching at Webster since 1999. • It’s fun to teach here, where I was once a student. • Always a Bearcat! • I also am an EMT with Christensen Ambulance.

  3. What Happens in Fourth Grade? • We read tons of great stories. • We set AR goals and reach for the stars. • We write about our ideas, opinions and information we’ve read. • We master the location of all 50 states. • We explore many Science topics. • We ace fractions, decimals, and cover lots of number concepts. • We become responsible for homework by using a student planner daily.

  4. Reading is HUGE in 4th Grade • Fourth graders are expected to read every night for 15-20 minutes in their DEAR book. • Students will bring this book to school each morning and home each night. • It is the students’ job to have parents sign planners each night and return planner and DEAR book to school each morning. • Planners are checked at 8:30. If it is forgotten or not signed, reading time is made up at morning recess.

  5. Math is everywhere everyday • We begin each day with Math. • The IXL site is a valuable tool. • Students should spend 10-15 minutes on IXL at home several nights each week. • If there is not a computer at home, we’ll talk about other options.

  6. Homework • If you pay attention and use your class time wisely, you should finish homework in about a half hour. • All homework is due the following morning at 8:30. Anything unfinished will be counted wrong. • If you forget your homework, you will need to do it over at recess. A homework notice will be sent home to be signed by parents. • If there are special circumstances, parents can let me know, and it will be handled fairly.

  7. Expectations • I expect students to listen thefirsttime. • I expect students to do theirbest with a positive attitude. • I expect students to be well behaved. • Studentscan expect meto help them learn. • Studentscan expect meto work hard each day with a positive attitude. • Studentscan expect me to care about them.

  8. I Almost Forgot…. • We laugh and make new friends. • We do our best, even when it’s tough. • We learn to love learning.
