What is Healthy FE? • A programme focused on addressing the health and wellbeing needs of staff and learners • It looks to build on current health and well being related activities through adopting a coordinated approach • Partnership with other stakeholders such as the PCT, local authorities and wider stakeholders is required.

  4. What is Health & Wellbeing? The World Health Organization(WHO) defined health in its broader sense in 1946 as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

  5. Why adopt Healthy FE in to your organisation? • Better levels of attention from learners • Focus on multi-disciplinary working • Improved staff well being • Lower rates of sickness absence • Increased levels of motivation • Potential financial savings

  6. Comments and questions • Are we funded to do this? • We have no in house specialists to do this work. • What is in it for us? • Is this a legal requirement? • Is it just another “badge” that will disappear, after we have achieved it • GFE Colleges can comply easily and they have more resources, we don’t have as much money.

  8. How we got started • Read all the materials on the website • Initial task group meeting • Promoted awareness among students and staff • Reviewed provision as part of annual quality cycle • Set smart action plan • Monitor action plan

  9. Ways to incorporate Health FE • College awareness – a series of days promoting positive health eg skin care in summer • Controls on smoking • Healthy Eating • Environment • Community Involvement • Physical activity • Staff CPD
