JAPCC Conference 2008 Panel 3 “Space as a critical enabler of NATO’s operations” The discussion will look at the various ways that space based capabilities have become a critical enabler of today’s operations, whether military or civil. Space activities should be conducted as a joint operation, which contributes significantly to BSM. As NATO becomes more dependent on, and our enemies have access to space capabilities, those systems must be monitored and protected. At present, there are many gaps in space capability and integration. NATO must continue to work towards better integration and sharing of information, which invariably transits space, and to provide direction to the member nations as to NATO’s operational space capability requirements.
