CLINICAL SUPERVISION • All Consultants ! • Responsible for patient safety • Workplace supervision • Teaching on the job • Feedback – to trainee and CT / ES • Workplace module supervision • Competency based assessment tools • Formal teaching sessions
EDUCATIONAL SUPERVISION • Educational Supervisors! • Monitors trainee progress over time • Trainee Appraisal – 4 times a year! (Learning agreement) • Initial competency assessment • Work with Portfolios • Careers Advice • Workplace Assessments • Assessment tools ( advice to clinical supervisors ) • Feedback – Formal ( summarise MSF’s ) • Trainee in difficulty ( refer on to College Tutor ) • ARCP’s Report • Attend update sessions ( Study days ) • Keep up to date with curriculum !!!!
EDUCATIONAL SUPERVISION • Educational Supervisor is a term introduced by PMETB. • Formally recognised by WSA • 3 year term • Precursor to College Tutor • 0.25 of an SPA per trainee supervised • Not more than 4 trainees per ES • Study Day attendance. • Maintain ES Portfolio
College Tutor- RCOA definition • A – Organisation of teaching / training • B – Examination preparation for trainees • C – Careers advise / Professional development • D – Liaison with School of Anaesthesia and Postgraduate Dean • E – Representative of the College
A – Teaching / Training • Lists • Induction Programme • Appraisal and Assessment • Modules • Ensure regular teaching takes place • Trainee Study leave • Support e-learning • Inform CD of required enviroment
B – Examination Preparation • Guidance and help those preparing for exams. • Guidance interviews • Teaching on local/regional courses • Attend both parts of FRCA as an observer
C – Professional Development • Clear objectives for trainees • Log books / Portfolio • Scientific Meetings • Audit projects • Presentations • Refer for further support
D – Liaison with WSA • Inform RA and PG of departmental progress • Attend STC meetings • Make local PG organiser aware of Facilities required • National recruitment • ARCP
E – Representative of College • Disseminate information to Trainers and ES • Attend annual meetings with CT’s and RA’s • Inform College of departmental problems • Encourage CPD for Trainers
COLLEGE TUTOR • Link man with RCoA. • Induction Programme. • PGME board. • Short listing / Interviews / Recruitment. • Trainee Study Days. • Trainee in difficulty. • RITA / ARCP panel member. • STC ( Speciality Training Committee ) member. • Organise teaching programme. • Leader for Educational Supervisors.
