Mountain View at a Glance Family, Love, Respect • Fairfax County Alternative High School with about 250 Students: • 43% English Language Learners • 14% Special Education • 46% Free/Reduced Lunch • 20% Behavior Referrals • 10% Pregnant and Parenting • Special Programs • Career Center • Workshop to help all seniors complete a transition plan before leaving Mountainview, including: • Career and Skill Inventories • Career Research • Resume
Day 1: Career Assessments • During a 90 minute class period students complete 3 career-related assessments: • Career Cluster Inventory • Talent Sort Cards • Work Values Inventory The results from these activities will be recorded on their Transition Plans.
Day 2: Career Exploration • During a 45 minute class period students: • Completed a Learning Styles Inventory and an Academic Skills Inventory • Used websites such as Career Cruising,ONET,and Bureau of Labor Statistics for career exploration • Students will research career description, earnings, education required, economic outlook,etc.
Day 2: Career Exploration • Students will review their personal profiles, and evaluate similarities between clusters, skills, values, and suggested careers. • The information collected in our time working with the students will be translated into an English paper that will be based on the results of their research.
Day 3: Career Goal Setting • Students create a long term SMART goal. This goal is formatted by Fairfax County Public Schools. • Students set a personal action plan including: actions, timeline, and resources needed. • The student and teacher sit down and conduct an exit interview to review the goal and plan.
