  2. Partnership • This is a City of San Diego project on a City owned bridge • The State is a partner in order to facilitate the engineering • The Federal government is funding the majority of the construction cost • The State has contributed close to $5 million

SUMMARY OF PROJECT • Rehabilitate external surface concrete & power wash bridge • Make it STRONGER • Retrofit the columns with more concrete and tensioned cables • Tie it horizontally with post tensioning and steel pins - to restrain the mid-span joints • Deck: Replace existing pavement , improve deck drainage • Abutments: Rehabilitate all concrete, improve access for inspectors • Install accent lighting

  4. Rehabilitate the external column concrete

  5. Scaffolding will be utilized in the rehabilitation

  6. Rehabilitate the undersides especially the mid-span joint area on the arches

  7. Deck work: January through April 2014 2

  9. Make the Bridge Stronger Retrofit: Add 10” of thickness and tensioned cables @ east/west walls

  10. Make the Bridge Stronger Install post tensioning, steel shear pins and new concrete to restrain the mid-span joints Joint Detail
