1. Topic Statement • First sentence of a body paragraph. • Acts as a kind of summary, and offers the reader an insightful view of the writer’s main ideas for the following paragraph. • Think of it as a movie preview.
Topic Statement = Movie Preview • It does not give you all the details. • That is what the body paragraph is for.
2. Details- • Find the details in the document or from your memory and use them. • (Some details will come from what you already know.)
3. Explanation • 3. Explain in your own words how the details prove what you are writing about.
4. Clincher Statement- • This is very similar to the topic statement. Sum up the paragraph and what you proved.

2. Analyze the task- • What is it asking you to prove?
