Why should you do this course? • The BTEC in Health and Social Care offers you a practical and relevant start to a career in the caring professions. • You should choose this course if you are a caring, patient young person. • If you want to work with people, helping them through difficult situations, or providing care and understanding. • If you are prepared to work hard and put in extra hours to complete the assignment requirements.
Where might this course lead you? • The Level 1/Level 2 First Certificate can lead to junior level positions in a wide variety of careers, including working in care homes, nursing, social and community work and counselling. • Or, you might choose to extend your knowledge and progress onto the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma, also offered here at TRNS. • Career progression includes: Teaching, Policing, the Armed Forces, the NHS, Social Care, Dietician, Personal Trainer, Psychologist, Care Worker in residential settings, Nursery work, Health Promotion etc...etc...!

Core units • Human Lifespan Development • Health and Social Care Values Mandatory units • Effective Communication in Health and Social Care • Healthy Living Specialist units • Social Influences on Health and Wellbeing • The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing • Individual Rights in Health and Social Care • Services in Health and Social Care
Assessment • Six of the units will be assessed through an assignmentthat is written to enable you to achieve the grading criteria for that unit. • Your class teacher will set, guide you to complete, and then assess each assignment. • You will be given feedback telling you what your next steps will be to achieve the grading criteria. You will be able to improve and resubmit each piece of work more than once, to help you achieve your potential. • Two units will be assessed through an external, one hour, paper examination.
The Health and Social Care department • The Head of Department is Mrs Klein. • Second in department is Miss Logan. • You can find them in rooms 14 and 15, near the canteen.
