Learning Objective: • Today we will learn how to put 2 or more sentences together to create a new sentence. • At the end of the lesson you will be able to identify sentences that are combined correctly.

Combining two short sentences • Short sentences: 1. Kelly’s necklace sparkles. 2. It is beaded. Think…both sentences are describing the necklace: Kelly’s beaded necklace sparkles.

Try it!... • Take these two short sentences: 1. The women always have to wait in a line. 2. The line is long. • Combine them… Think…both sentences talk about a line… The women always have to wait in a long line.

Combining two short sentences • Short sentences: I am going to a sleepover. I ‘m going tomorrow. • Combine the sentences: Think…Both sentences talk about the sleepover: Tomorrow I am going to a sleepover. or I’m going to a sleepover tomorrow.

Try it!... • Short Sentences: You are supposed to sit on the bus. You are supposed to sit quietly. • Combine the sentences: Think…both sentences are talking about how we act on the bus… You are supposed to sit quietly on the bus.

Combine two or more short sentences about the same subject • Short sentences: The reading teacher is organized. The reading teacher is funny. The reading teacher is helpful. • Combine: Think… all sentences describe the teacher. The reading teacher is organized, funny, and helpful.

Try it… • Short sentences: On Thanksgiving, we have turkey. We also have stuffing. We also have gravy. Combine the sentences…think about what they are all about…Thanksgiving! • Don’t forget, when we make a list we use commas On Thanksgiving, we have turkey, stuffing, and gravy.
