Open Evening • Middle of September. • Prospectus is handed out to Feeder Schools before the Open Evening. • All class rooms are open and staffed. • Learning Zones prepare activities. • Oakwood High Street.
Information Sharing • Parents/guardians and school are notified Y6 children have a place the first week in March. • Visits to Parents Evenings at our feeder schools. • CPO, SENCO and Transition Co-ordinator meet with Y6 Teachers.
Preparation for Y6 Induction Day • Visits to feeder schools to talk to pupils in Q&A sessions. • Information is sent home to Parents/guardians to confirm place and key dates. • Pupils are placed in a House and a Tutor – Aspen, Beech, Larch, Rowan or Willow. • There is a plan of activities throughout the day within Learning Zones.
Induction Day • June. • Pupils experience a ‘day in the life of an Oakwood pupil’. • Meet their Tutor and Tutor group. • Activities with Learning Zone and HOH.
Y6 Parents Evening • One week after Induction Day. • Introduction to the schools processes. • Opportunity for the Head Teacher to outline the schools ethos and expectations. • Showcase the success of Induction Day.
Transition • Around 20th June Y6 start Oakwood as a Y7 pupil. • Pupils have four weeks to settle into Oakwood enables the start in September to be seamless. • To make the transfer from KS2 to KS3 as easy as possible. • Pupil attainment is less likely to dip as they move from KS2 to KS3.

Your Challenge – Hard working, worried, not adapting to change, specific needs, high flyer, making friends, new school, conscientious, (match the challenge to a possible solution)
Form tutor challenge • Plan an introductory tutor activity. Find out about them Ask how they are Thank them Smile at them Open a door for them As the leader and the adult in the classroom, if you model the behaviour you want them to display, you have a good chance they will copy you.......eventually!
Subject teacher challenge • Plan an introductory activity for a year 7 class in your specialist subject area Find out about them – Data, progress to date. Ask how they are – friendship groups, seating plans Thank them – positive praise Smile at them – climate for learning Open a door for them – be prepared, plan lessons effectively, greet them at the door. As the leader and the adult in the classroom, if you model the behaviour you want them to display, you have a good chance they will copy you.......eventually!
